Last year I decided to build a newborn studio in my residential space to serve clients in a new way. The opportunities it has offered since then have just blossomed! My studio now hosts everything from expectant families to newborns and well beyond into the years of childhood.

One session that I'm so pleased to offer is my studio milestone. This is meant to document exactly what your life is at this very moment. Whether it's waiting for your baby to become a big sister as this sweet session shows, expecting your first new baby, or celebrating a first, fourth or ninth birthday, I will capture your family in the most simplistic way that allows your family's love and connection to be the forefront of your portraits. No distracting themes over here. Just beautiful light, lovely clothing (hello studio wardrobe right here at your disposal!), and the love you share with your family.

Now tell me, what do you think of this swing that I added to my prop closet?! I have this and a beautiful macrame baby swing to add a little fun to your session. If you book a baby milestone session, you can expect lots of toys as natural and lovely as this. I have wooden stools, egg shakers, building blocks, and so much more to capture your child's attention and let them feel at home.

I typically recommend that my clients book their studio newborn sessions during their third trimester so I can ensure my availability for your family. Once baby is Earth-side, you contact me to schedule your actual session between 5-14 days after birth- a sweet spot of time where baby is sleepy and bendy, ideal for a more posed gallery.

Every once in a while I'll receive an inquiry from a family that has just had their baby and haven't yet booked their newborn photo session. That is how I came to meet this beautiful baby girl! Rory was already two weeks old when her lovely mama reached out to me, wishing that she had booked newborn portraits. They moved to a new house right after she was born, so photos just weren't a priority...until they realized they didn't have them! I am so glad that our schedules aligned and I was able to schedule her on one of my open weekday mornings.

Rory was quite alert, and she put up a good fight to fall asleep for us! I was able to adjust my workflow just enough to find the positions she preferred so that even though she was awake, she was still content.

Today, I am getting ready to send off Rory's studio newborn gallery and I am in love.

Another first birthday celebration in the books! This sweet family came to my Castle Rock, Colorado, studio all the way from Montana!! What?! It's so fun to see what they are most drawn to and how they interact with each toy and with their family. We let baby lead the way; they'll let us know what they want!

I visited with the Sokoloski family last week, and I got to meet their sweet new addition, newborn baby Avery! This feels like the perfect opportunity to dust off my blogging fingers and start posting more of my sessions. (This is the third session I've had with them and only the first one to blog. Yikes! Time to start getting more active.) When I arrived to their home, Avery was finishing her meal with her mama, but that didn't mean mama couldn't help big sister Ellie put on some pretty lip gloss! Ellie is the most perfect big sister who just loves on her baby sister so well. She also loves her big girl tent and reading in it with her daddy. I can't wait to continue to watch this beautiful family grow!

ELLIS FAMILY | DOUGLAS COUNTY, COLORADO | 2018

When Ashley contacted me about booking her family portraits for this fall, I was so excited to plan their session! We met through our local MOMS Club when I moved to Castle Rock last fall. She is such an amazing mama, and I am honored to capture her family.

These beautiful sisters are the same age as my two babies! I might be biased, but it truly is my very favorite age to photograph. I often get parents saying, "Oh my two year old is really going to make you work for it!" But the truth of the matter is that's okay! While I do take a few moments to grab a portrait with everyone looking at the camera, that's not our main goal here. I want to tell the story of your family so you and your children can look back at these images with THEIR families and see something really special.

This might look like a quiet, stolen moment, but nope, there's a baby on the hip. And it doesn't get more real than that for a family of five...

Sometimes the littles reach a point where they are just D O N E with a capital DONE, and that's totally expected. They had so much fun playing and exploring for an hour straight! They were rock stars. But I love that Ashley and Will decided to include some of these outtakes in their gallery because this is a perfect way to remember the whole gamut of faces they see on a daily basis. It's not all smiles and giggles, and that's life with three under five!!
